Digital Media Production Program Overview
What will I learn?
During your 6 months at Guru Digital Arts College, you’ll learn more than just how to use the tools that digital media professionals employ. You’ll also learn the best practices of the industry and the foundations of digital design theory to help you understand what makes a design good. We’ll also introduce you to fundamental content creation including basic drawing, photography and videography. Most importantly, we’ll teach you the interpersonal skills necessary to get the most out of your technical knowledge, including:
• Client Relationship Management
• Business Communications
• Project Process
• Creative Process
• Team-based Consensus and Collaboration
• Personal time management
• Interpersonal Communication
• Presentations and Pitching
What tools will I use?
You’ll be assigned an iMac 24" computer for the duration of your studies. Eat your lunch or drink your coffee at your desk – it’s your space.
You'll use the following Adobe software:
• Adobe Photoshop
• Adobe Illustrator
• Adobe InDesign
• Adobe Flash
• Adobe Dreamweaver
• Adobe Acrobat 7
• Adobe Premiere
• AfterEffects
You'll use industry-standard web technologies (World Wide Web Consortium) such as:
• XHTML
• CSS
• Javascript
• PHP
• MySQL
How will I apply my learning?
To simulate the pace of a simulated workplace, we assign our students a variety of mini-projects on a regular basis. These projects include:
• Logo Design
• Poster Design
• Brochure Design
• Website Design and Development
• Booklet Design
• Animation
• Video Production
We’ll also provide you with web space, time and assistance to help you develop a web-based portfolio. You’ll produce a mid-term portfolio and a final portfolio, which you’ll carry with you as you start on the path towards your future career.
How will I do all of this in six months?
Each course within the program is about 40 hours long, with a total program time of 812 hours. We spread out the courses logically to help you learn best.
Our strategy is to keep class sizes small so that our instructors can facilitate your learning needs. Each of our instructors is a skilled teacher with direct and current industry experience. Due to their skill, we’re able to give you what you need to succeed in just 6 months.
However, the biggest component of the equation is you. Our program requires hard work, preparation, and focus. We’ll do our best to help you along the way, but only you can achieve your dream.
This program is not for everyone. Six months is not very long. It’s up to you to be prepared, to stay focused and to work hard. At Guru, we do everything we can to help you achieve your dream, but the work has to come from you.
