At Guru, we pride ourselves on our ability to bring in the finest experts in the art and media community to help our students achieve their goals. It's with this in mind that Guru is pleased to announce the return of an old favorite.

Our friends over at Digital Alberta will be hosting a free social media panel discussion on September 22nd at the Seven Restolounge in Calgary. Registration begins at 5pm, and the expected end time is 7pm. The focus will be on how you can use social media - and people's obsession with it - to aid your business.

The above blog title could have used some more kerning between "P's and Q's", don't you think? While that misstep seems fairly obvious, beginning designers often overlook typography completely, or use it incorrectly.

As our Intake 16 students are just getting into typography, I want to drive the point home that it's an important element of design, one that seperates the newbies from the seasoned pros. 

Today is a very auspicious day here at Guru. We're pleased to welcome our 16th intake (Codename: Sweet 16) to our digital family. More importantly, this intake consists of - wait for it - 16 students.

Luck? Coincidence? Fate? Administrative engineering? Who knows? Whatever the case, this is Guru's biggest intake yet, and we're excited about the opportunities for growth that this presents for us.

Welcome to the family, newbies. I look forward to correcting your dangling modifiers soon.

Say what you will about the lack of Space bar love in the title; DemoCampEdmonton8 was a huge success. Guru attended the camp this last Wednesday at the U of A to witness six demonstrations of new and exciting tech solutions. Each presenter had 10 minutes to demo and explain his or her new technology. Think of it as Pecha Kucha for ubergeeks.

Here at Guru, we strive to constantly improve our teaching methods and strategies. To help us review our curriculum and improve the quality of instruction, Guru has hosted an Instructor Mentorship Program (IMP) every Thursday night in our boardroom.

Now that our September 14th intake - our biggest intake ever - is looming just over the horizon, IMP has become more important than before.

Join Edmonton's professional design and art community at the Citadel theatre on September 28th for boardLink Live. The event will feature a speed matchmaking format, as well as guest speakers and live music. Board members from Alberta art organizations such as The Citadel Theatre, Edmonton Opera, Art Gallery of Alberta, The Works International Visual Arts Society and Mile Zero Dance will be present.
