Tuition & fees

How much does it cost to attend Guru?

Domestic tuition (all programs): $13,900

International tuition (all programs for students outside of Canada): $21,000

Your tuition includes all required textbooks, but does not include periodical subscriptions, recommended reading and general educational supplies such as notebooks and pens.

That seems expensive for 6 months of education…

Tuition is expensive, but it’s important to look at value, not price, when you choose a post-secondary institute.

To clarify, you’re not getting 6 months of education with Guru; you’re getting a 2-year education in a 6-month period. We achieve this by cutting out superfluous material, keeping a brisk pace of instruction, and focusing on the most relevant information that a designer needs to be successful.

A typical semester in a two-year program is only about 15 hours of instruction per week (based on a full schedule of 5 three-credit courses per semester). At Guru you get 35 hours a week of classroom time.

Why don’t I just take the two-year program at another college?

You could do that, and spread out the same tuition over 2 years. However, there’s more to consider than just flat tuition fees when it comes to funding your education.

Let’s compare Guru’s tuition cost to the design program of two-year diploma program.

Guru Domestic Tuition (6 months): $13,900

Domestic Tuition (2 years, based on 2009-2010 estimates): $13,374

It may look even, but consider the following:

1. Time – By completing your education sooner, you can begin working right away. This means you can start living the dream half a year from now.

2. Income – Albertan Graphic Designers make an average of $44,700 a year ($3,725 a month) based on 2007 estimates. After 6 months with Guru, you can start working in the field right away, making contacts and earning a living full-time.  You get a year-and-a-half head over people attending 2-year programs.

3. Living expenses – The cost of living over 6 months is much, much cheaper than the cost of living over 2 years, especially when you factor in the summers between academic years where rent and utilities and food costs don’t magically disappear. Why pay more when you don’t have to?

But where will I get the money?

Guru Digital Arts College is licensed under the Private Vocational Training Act. You may be eligible for government funding and/or student loans.

For more information regarding government funding or student loans, visit the Alberta Learning Information Service Financial Assistance [linkto: http://www.alis.gov.ab.ca/] page. Where does my tuition go?

As a Private School, Guru Digital Arts College receives no extra funding or support from the public sector (municipal, provincial, or federal governments). Your tuition keeps the lights on, software current, and coffee warm. Our first priority is to keep our programs the most premium experiences we can offer. This means that we keep our management and faculty a lean and tight running ship. We're kind of like WestJet that way. Everyone pitches in to make Guru the best place we can make it.
